A rapid-setting cement-based repair mortar for stopping running water
through cracks, holes and openings in concrete, masonry and other sound
substrates.
MAXPLUG is a quick-setting cement-based mortar that instantly stops
running water from cracks, holes and other openings in concrete,
masonry and sound substrates.
It is supplied as a grey powder and requires only water for mixing.
MAXPLUG begins hardening within a few seconds and normally sets within
three to five minutes, depending on temperature and conditions.
Its mechanical properties are comparable to concrete and, in some
cases, may be superior. The product is designed to set under water
and does not contain chlorides.

How to use MAXPLUG
1 Prepare the surface
Remove all loose material. Cracks should generally have a minimum
depth of approximately 40 mm and an opening of 30–40 mm. Cut the
opening into a square or preferably dovetail shape. Avoid a V-shaped
cut. Wet the surface if there is no active water present.
2 Mix a small quantity
Mix only the amount that can be applied within approximately three
minutes. For an active leak, mix only the quantity that can be held
and applied by hand.
3 Add water gradually
Use a clean plastic or rubber container. Add water slowly until the
mixture reaches a cement-mortar consistency. Approximately 0.28 litres
of water is required for each kilogram of MAXPLUG, depending on
conditions.
4 Apply immediately
Apply using a trowel, spatula or gloved hand. Do not pour the material
into the opening. For cracks under high pressure, work in small
sections rather than attempting to plug the entire crack at once.
Important:
MAXPLUG sets rapidly. Prepare only the amount that can be applied before
it begins to harden.
Temperature and curing
At approximately 18–20°C, normal setting time is three to five minutes.
In warm conditions, use cold water to delay setting. In extreme heat,
keep the product in the shade and use ice in the mixing water.
Tools and cleaning
Clean tools immediately with water after use. Once the material has
hardened, it can generally only be removed mechanically.
Important installation guidance
Leaks in cracks or joints
Prepare the crack to a depth of approximately 50 mm and remove loose
concrete. Apply MAXPLUG in small amounts by hand. Wait until the
material becomes warm, apply it firmly, remove excess material
immediately and continue along the crack.
Concrete slabs and walls
For floor-to-wall junctions, create an opening of at least 20 × 30 mm
and form a waterproof cove using MAXPLUG.
Expansion joints
MAXPLUG becomes rigid when set and is not the ideal final material for
joints subject to continuous movement. It may be used to stop water,
after which the joint should be recreated with a suitable flexible
joint sealant.
Anchoring
MAXPLUG can be used to anchor bolts and metal fixtures into concrete
where rapid setting is required.
