Question:

Hi, I’m looking at using Drizoro Maxseal Flex on a concrete slab and Besser block retaining wall. The slab is poured up against the Besser block wall and I’m thinking I should use Drizoro Maxjoint Elastic in the slab to wall junction. I have noticed that the Drizoro Maxjoint Elastic says under “curing” I need to wait 7 days until I can coat over it with Drizoro Maxseal Flex.
MY QUESTION is to avoid waiting time can I install the Maxjoint Elastic over the top of the Drizoro Maxseal Flex and avoid the 7-day waiting time?

Answer:

No

Question:

Hi, I applied Drizoro Maxseal Foundation and in some areas, it has dried white rather than a grey colour. The area that has dried white wasn’t drying so I had to put the fan on it after 5 days. Basically, 20 square metres has dried well except 1 square meter or so which has a damp spot anyway at the back of a garage wall.

Is that efflorescence? Has something gone wrong?

Answer:

No most unlikely to be efflorescence. However, if the wall wasn’t efflorescence free. Or if the Maxseal coating was applied incorrectly the efflorescence could grow through pinholes. Over time even worse can occur. The efflorescence pushing the Maxseal coating off. This why it is important to remove all signs of efflorescence using  Efflorescence Rid – which Removes Efflorescence from concrete. This process should be carried out immediately prior to the application of any Maxseal product.

Usually, Maxseal membranes can appear to have wet or damp spots for sometime after application. Moisture can be even seen on the treated wall. This caused by a combination of condensation and moisture breathing out of the wall. Don’t worry eventually, the wall will dry out.

Question:

Can you paint over the Maxseal Flex?

Answer:

Yes, you can paint over any of the Maxseal cementitious waterproof membranes. Just follow the paint manufacturers instructions for painting concrete surfaces.

Drizoro recommends that 80% of the original surface be exposed( this doesn’t mean you clean 80% of the wall and leave the 20%).

Question

How do you seal the edge of a cementitious membrane?

Answer:

The cementitious membrane is like any other membrane. It is sealed up to the edge of the membrane. Water following cracks not covered by the cementitious membrane or other areas which are porous will continue to leak. In some cases, leaks will slowly push past the areas that have been sealed.

With traditional membranes, water can and does attack the edge of the membrane or even travel under the membrane causing it to delaminate this is not the case with Drizoro Cementitious Membranes. Once applied Drizoro membranes will not delaminate in this manner.

Question:

Why does our Maxseal coating look damp?

Answer:

Often condensation or an area may appear damp (first or final coating). Don’t worry often the coating may take some time to completely dry.
If after a couple of months condensation continues to appear the area may need to have better ventilation

Question:

When you have applied the Drizoro Maxseal Flex how long can you leave it before you pebblecrete over?

Answer:

Maxseal products can be treated like a normal concrete surface. Maxseal products can be applied to fresh or green concrete improving the curing of the concrete.
If your coating e.g. If the manufacturer recommends that you wait for 28 days curing of the fresh concrete. We recommend you wait for the same period of time before applying your finish, in this case, pebblecrete.

Question

I have some bubbles on my existing rubberoid membrane, should I burst the bubbles or paint over them

Answer

Drizoro Maxseal Flex or any of the Maxseal cementitious membranes are designed to be applied to masonry surfaces.
Once the water has penetrated such membranes they slowly delaminate so painting over the bubbles will do nothing to improve the integrity of your current membrane. The only way to repair using Maxseal is to completely remove the rubberoid membrane and apply Drizoro Maxseal Flex

Question

Once I apply Maxseal Foundation and Maxseal Super, to the inside of a Basement block wall, we want to install 2×4 framing and then closed-cell spray foam.
Will spray foam adhere to the Maxseal block wall?

Answer

If the closed-cell spray foam will adhere to a block or masonry wall then it will adhere to a Maxseal Cementitious Membrane
