Concrete Silo Repairs DRIZORO PRODUCTS BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO HERITAGE SILOS

Due to extensive concrete cancer, concrete silo repairs were necessary. The Developers specified Drizoro Maxrest and Maxseal products to restore a series of heritage-listed silos. These silos redevelopment design and refurbishment were in the inner-city suburb of Newtown.

Sydney’s vibrant inner-city Newtown celebrates the successful transformation of its heritage-listed silos into 63 stylish apartments. Originally built in 1896, these iconic grain silos faced a unique challenge. Their heritage status meant they couldn’t be demolished, inspiring a creative solution: seamlessly integrating the existing structures into a modern development.

While initial assessments revealed some spalling concrete due to moisture, this challenge was embraced as an opportunity to restore and enhance the silos’ integrity, ensuring their longevity and continued presence in the cityscape.

The project team of the importers were able to recommend several Drizoro products to use.

  1. The Repair of areas showed spalling and concrete cancer. Drizoro Maxrest used to repair the areas of spalling concrete and concrete cancer.
  2. Waterproof completely the surface of the silo with Drizoro Maxseal Flex. Maxseal Flex Grey used to waterproof the area. The grey colour would restore the original appearance of the silos.

Architect Spends 45 Years Transforming An Old Cement Factory Into A Fairytale Home

In the early 1970s Ricardo Bofill. A young architect. Fell in love with a cement factory abandoned since 1968 in Sant Just Desvern, a suburb of Barcelona.

Driving to the western suburbs of Barcelona, the landscape in Sant Just Desvern featured blocks of concrete, enormous silos, chimneys exhaling smoke. The factory was active at the time. They dismantled the 31,000-square-meter industrial complex a month after that visit. For the architect, it was the perfect opportunity to satisfy his longing for space. Taking care of that decaying factory, he could give it a second life.
